Gas Heaters

Tetronics gas heating torches are based on Tetronics’ highly successful Direct Current (DC) system, operating in a non-transferred arc mode. They have a typical range of operating power of between 50 and 300 kW and can accept almost any gas as the working gas to be heated. Their design makes them ideal for providing a clean, controllable source of heated gas without contamination by fuel gases and up to typically 2000 °C. Gas heating torches are typically supplied as a packaged heater with all necessary controls, water cooling, gas delivery system and plasma power supply, with options for flange mounting onto the outside of a furnace or in a water cooled tube which projects into a furnace. Our gas heaters are currently being used in a range of industries including: steel making, advanced materials and nanopowder production, organic waste treatment and high temperature materials testing.

Operating records from field operation show component life commonly many hundreds of hours and one typical report from a service engineer is shown below.

The customer has been using the gas heater at 260 kW for 300 hours or more without changing the cathode. The customer is very happy with the operation of the Tetronics plasma system and says the cathode life time will be more than 300 hours, since they are still using the first one.
