Medical & Clinical Wastes

The healthcare industry generates billions of pounds of medical, clinical and pharmaceutical waste each year and disposing of it can pose a significant challenge. In some instances medical waste can include infectious‐hazardous clinical waste mixed with general waste, raising concerns about environmental pollution and the transmission of infectious diseases. The scale of the problem is escalating with the shift toward the use of disposables that is increasing the volume of hazardous clinical and medical waste requiring disposal. Hospitals have previously been equipped with, or outsourced to medical incinerators, but these are often being phased out due to operation and maintenance problems as well as air pollution issues.

How Tetronics can help unlock value from this process

Tetronics waste processing plants offer the closest to zero waste currently available, for the safe treatment of medical and clinical waste. The intense plasma process in Tetronics’ waste recovery technology is designed to ensure complete destruction of physical hazards (such as sharps) as well as achieving a 99.9999% Destruction and Reduction Efficiency (DRE) level for bacteria and prion type materials. The remaining material is an inert product called Plasmarok® that can be employed in a range of applications, such as a simple construction aggregate, enabling our customers to extract value from their waste and reduce landfill liabilities. The robust level of construction and minimal number of moving components delivers outstanding plant availability and longevity. The recovery process also has exceptional environmental and commercial credentials and can be considered as a future‐proof solution removing the business risk associated with unknown future landfill availability and disposal costs.
